The Mozilla Maintenance Service has been installed by Firefox which permits application updates to occur in the background, and users don’t have to click on Yes in the Windows User Account Control (UAC) dialog.

Now the question arises why has Mozilla created the Maintenance service and installed it with Firefox?

Mozilla has created the Maintenance service and installed it with Firefox to avoid the User Account Control dialog with this service, hence the updates are installed without any interruption in the background and the user’s permission is not necessary.

This service will be installed when you install Firefox on your PC and you don’t need to install it with every install or release.

Opting out:

You can opt-out or quit  Mozilla Maintenance Service just on the off chance that you play out a clean install of Firefox and that too with Custom install type chosen. That implies you won’t see the install of the Maintenance Service with the Standard install type or when you update from the currently introduced rendition to the most recent one.

How to disable or uninstall Mozilla maintenance service:

  1. First of all, click on the Firefox menu and select Options then go to General
  2. In the General section, go to ‘Firefox Updates’, under ‘Allow Firefox to’, uncheck “Use a background service to install updates”Mozilla Maintenance Service
  3. Then, to save the changes click Ok.

Note: You can also uninstall it from the Control Panel.

How to uninstall Mozilla Maintenance Service:

  1. First of all go to Control Panel and then Programs after that go to Programs and Features,
  1. Then, select ‘Mozilla Maintenance Service’ and click the Uninstall button.

Note:- Mozilla Maintenance Service runs once in the background and it will not affect Firefox performance. After you uninstall this service, in the future, it won’t be installed via an “update by Firefox” on your PC where updates fall back to the old method, where you are required to click on the ‘Yes’ button for the UAC dialog to install.
