The Central Board of Secondary Education has reduced the syllabus of Class 12 keeping in view the current pandemic situation of COVID-19 across India and the world. Apart from class 12, the syllabus for class 9, 10, and 11 have also been revised. The total reduction of 30% in the syllabus of class 9 to 12 for the academic years 2020-21 has provided relief to the students as it has lessened the burden of the board exam on students.

The board has decided to reduce the class 12 syllabus due to the loss in classroom teaching due to the health emergency brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak. The reduction in the syllabus has affected all stream students i.e; Science, Commerce, and Humanity.
Various basic topics have been deleted from the syllabus of all subjects. For Science Stream students it has impacted a lot as the topics deleted from physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology syllabus were critical for the engineering and medical entrance exams.
The reduction of the syllabus will mostly hurt aspirants who are set to write NEET and JEE Main 2021 exams. Removing the basics topics and keeping the advanced one in the syllabus has one way promoted rote learning and destroyed the concept of intellectual learning.
